Chile Court Orders Fresh Aquifer Review for Google’s Planned Cerrillos Data Center

Google submitted a 2022 project modification to shift the planned Cerrillos Data Center in Santiago to air cooling after environmental objections to its original groundwater use. In 2024, Chile’s Second Environmental Court ordered a reassessment of the project’s impact on the aquifer, including climate-change considerations.

Infineon Acquires C2i Semiconductors for AI Server Power-Control Technology

Infineon Technologies acquired Indian company C2i Semiconductors on 24 August, adding digital power-management technology for AI servers and vertical-power capabilities. The acquisition targets a part of the AI infrastructure stack where higher compute densities are increasing the importance of efficient power conversion and delivery.

Japan’s AI Data-Center Buildout Drives New Optical Infrastructure Initiatives

Japan’s optical-infrastructure ecosystem is advancing manufacturing, standards and network trials aimed at AI data centers and distributed GPU deployments. S1 reported that Tokyo data-center inventory exceeded 1 GW in the first quarter of 2026, alongside initiatives spanning high-density connectors, multicore fiber and all-photonic connectivity.

d-Matrix Announces NVLink Fusion Integration Plans for Raptor XPU

d-Matrix has announced plans to adopt NVIDIA NVLink Fusion for its new Raptor XPU and to join NVIDIA’s AI platform partner ecosystem. The company intends to use NVIDIA MGX infrastructure components, including standardized rack designs, power delivery and liquid cooling, for AI-inference deployments.

Google outlines shifting AI infrastructure constraints and hardware-specialisation priorities

Google AI and Infrastructure executive Amin Vahdat said AI infrastructure bottlenecks can shift rapidly among compute, power and memory, requiring short-cycle adjustments to resource allocation. Speaking at SEMICON Taiwan 2026, he also highlighted workload-specific TPU designs, reduced data movement and dynamic cooling as areas of hardware development.

Huawei unveils 7.2Tbps NPO optical-interconnect solution and seeks OIF standardisation

Huawei has demonstrated a 7.2Tbps near-packaged optics (NPO) solution at the China International Optoelectronic Exposition and said it intends to deploy the technology in its superPoD supercomputing systems. The company is also pursuing an NPO specification through the Optical Internetworking Forum, although the proposal has not yet become an official OIF standard.

Firebird AI opens NVIDIA-based compute data center in Armenia

US-Armenian startup Firebird AI has opened a compute data center in Hrazdan, Kotayk Province, Armenia, built on NVIDIA technologies. The sole provided source describes the facility as the region’s largest and says Firebird secured a US export licence for NVIDIA B200 accelerators destined for Armenia in November 2025.

US House Plans Consideration of Ratepayer Protection Act Next Week

The US House of Representatives is expected to consider the bipartisan Ratepayer Protection Act next week. The bill would require state utility regulators to consider rules under which data centers bear part of the cost of new generation needed to serve their electricity demand.

Analysis separates hyperscaler data-center commitments from reported debt

An analysis of disclosures by Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft and Oracle argues that more than $1 trillion in widely discussed future infrastructure commitments should not be treated as existing debt. It also highlights Meta’s reported use of off-balance-sheet special-purpose vehicles to finance data centers, alongside guarantees to bondholders.
