Vertiv is building out its Japanese business around demand for AI data-center infrastructure. The company formed Vertiv Japan in February 2025, with Ken Kurahashi taking the role of country president in May. According to the company, initial orders from global customers in Japan have exceeded its original plan.
The supplier is positioning OneCore as its largest modular offering, primarily for AI data centers supporting model training. A minimum OneCore unit is specified to provide 12.5 MW of power supply. Vertiv says configurations can scale to 25 MW with two units, 50 MW with four, 100 MW with eight, and as much as 1 GW through a ten-unit configuration.
Those figures describe the platform’s stated technical scalability, not capacity installed or operating at a specific Japanese data center. Vertiv also cites overseas experience in which modular projects can be completed in as little as six to 12 months; this is not confirmation of an equivalent delivery schedule for a Japanese deployment.
Alongside OneCore, Vertiv is promoting SmartRun, a factory-assembly approach for server-room elements including piping, busway, cable trays and cold- and hot-aisle containment, followed by installation at the site. The model is intended to shift more assembly work offsite and support faster infrastructure deployment.
Vertiv is also expanding its thermal-management capability for liquid-cooled AI loads through acquisitions involving coolant distribution units, chillers, water treatment, dry coolers and cold plates. Taken together, the portfolio development could strengthen competition in Japan’s AI infrastructure market, where integrated power, liquid cooling and prefabricated deployment models are becoming more important. The company has not disclosed customer names, project sites, order values, delivered-system volumes or operational AI data-center capacity in Japan.
The move points to intensifying competition for Japan’s AI data-center infrastructure spend, where suppliers are increasingly offering integrated, factory-built power and thermal-management systems rather than discrete equipment. Vertiv’s stated OneCore scaling range also suggests an offer aimed at large AI training environments as well as smaller deployments, although this is product capability rather than commissioned Japanese capacity.
