Venture Global Signs Conditional Equipment Agreements for Up to 11.5 GW of Off-Grid Gas Generation
Редакция ЦОД:Главное
Venture Global has entered agreements with GE Vernova and Baker Hughes covering up to 16 generating units rated at 720 MW each, supporting a potential expansion of standalone gas-fired power for prospective AI data centers in the United States. The company expects to place its first power-island order by the end of 2026, while subsequent procurement and investment remain conditional.
- The agreements cover up to 16 gas-fired generating units rated at 720 MW each.
- The proposed units could add about 11.5 GW of off-grid generation capacity.
- Venture Global targets up to 10 GW of AI computing capacity by the end of 2034; this is distinct from the generation-capacity figure.
- The first power-island order is expected by the end of 2026, not confirmed as placed.
- Potential equipment-agreement value of about $17.2 billion is conditional on all proposed purchases proceeding.
Venture Global has signed agreements with GE Vernova and Baker Hughes for a potential expansion of autonomous gas-fired generation intended to serve prospective AI data centers on land owned or controlled by the company.
The agreements cover up to 16 generating units, each rated at 720 MW. Together, the units could provide approximately 11.5 GW of additional generation capacity. Venture Global envisages deploying the assets as power islands operating independently from the public grid, rather than as grid-connected supply for the proposed data-center loads.
The planned generation buildout is linked to Venture Global’s stated ambition to develop up to 10 GW of AI computing capacity by the end of 2034. The two figures measure different things: the 11.5 GW figure refers to potential generation capacity, while the 10 GW target refers to computing capacity. They should not be treated as equivalent measures of delivered data-center load.
Venture Global expects its first power-island order to be placed by the end of 2026. The company already cites roughly 4.5 GW of modular gas generation across six power islands serving LNG facilities that are operating, under construction or on order; this figure does not represent wholly operational capacity.
If all proposed equipment purchases proceed, the combined agreements could be worth about $17.2 billion. That figure is a potential value of the equipment agreements, not confirmed CAPEX. Further investment is subject to customer commitments, market demand, regulatory approvals and other commercial factors.
For the data-center and power-infrastructure market, the proposal points to dedicated gas-fired generation as a possible alternative where grid interconnection is constrained. The commercial impact will depend on whether the conditional agreements convert into firm orders, whether permits are secured, and whether data-center customers commit to the proposed sites.
The agreements outline a potential route for large AI data-center loads to secure dedicated generation without waiting for public-grid interconnection. If converted into orders and developed, the model could increase demand for gas-turbine equipment and associated power infrastructure, but its effect on delivered capacity depends on customer commitments, permitting, market demand and other commercial conditions.
