  • Venture Global is planning off-grid gas-fired generation for data center supply at sites it owns or controls.
  • The company has equipment agreements with GE Vernova and Baker Hughes Energy Services covering items including turbines and transformers.
  • The reported up-to-10-GW figure is potential supported computing, or IT, capacity—not confirmed power-plant generation capacity.
  • First-phase equipment ordering is expected by year-end; neither construction nor placed orders have been confirmed.
  • Generation is potentially targeted for late 2028 or early 2029.

Venture Global plans to develop off-grid gas-fired power plants to supply electricity to data centers at company-owned or controlled sites. The facilities are intended to reduce developers’ exposure to delays in connecting new data center capacity to the wider power grid.

According to the reported plans, Venture Global has agreements with GE Vernova and Baker Hughes Energy Services to source equipment for on-site generation, including turbines and transformers. An equipment order for the first phase is expected by year-end. The company has not confirmed that orders have been placed, and no construction start has been disclosed.

The projects could support up to 10 GW of computing capacity. This figure refers to potential supported IT capacity, rather than confirmed generating capacity of the planned power plants. Power generation could begin in late 2028 or early 2029, although no precise date has been provided.

For the data center sector, the plan points to a possible expansion of the dedicated-generation model for campuses facing constrained or delayed grid interconnection. If executed, it could create demand for gas turbines, transformers and related energy infrastructure. However, the geography, generation capacity, CAPEX, first-phase scope and detailed delivery timetable have not been disclosed.

Почему это важно

The proposal highlights dedicated on-site generation as a potential route around delayed grid interconnections for data center development. If implemented, the initiative could support demand for gas turbines, transformers and associated power infrastructure, although the projects remain at the planning stage.
