TrendForce reports that North American cloud operators have increased demand for enterprise SSDs over the past two weeks, with QLC products identified as the principal source of growth. The firm expects fourth-quarter enterprise SSD orders could exceed the third-quarter peak, supporting further price increases.
- TrendForce reports a recent rise in North American cloud demand for enterprise SSDs.
- QLC enterprise SSDs are identified as the primary demand driver, alongside high-performance TLC products.
- Fourth-quarter enterprise SSD orders could exceed the third-quarter peak, according to TrendForce.
- AI data capture, real-time caching, vector databases and KV Cache Offload are supporting demand for high-capacity flash.
- Storage could become a more significant cost and supply constraint in AI data-center build-outs.
TrendForce reports a recent increase in enterprise SSD demand from North American cloud service providers as CSPs accelerate deployments and broaden storage use cases. The research firm expects aggregate fourth-quarter enterprise SSD orders could exceed the third-quarter peak, a development that would strengthen suppliers’ negotiating position and support continued price increases.
While demand is also rising for high-performance TLC SSDs, TrendForce identifies QLC enterprise SSDs as the main growth driver because of their price-to-capacity proposition. This points to a procurement focus on capacity-oriented flash tiers rather than performance alone.
The demand shift is linked to expanding AI workloads. Agentic AI deployments increase the requirement to capture and cache large volumes of data in real time, while QLC SSDs are gaining application in vector databases. In China, AI architectures represented by DeepSeek are also supporting the use of high-capacity QLC enterprise SSDs for KV Cache Offload.
For data-center operators, the development could make storage a more material cost and supply consideration in AI infrastructure expansion. Continued growth in enterprise SSD orders and prices could also shift cloud operators’ purchasing mix toward high-capacity QLC products for vector-database data and caching, while influencing NAND suppliers’ production allocation.
The trend suggests that AI infrastructure is increasing demand for high-capacity enterprise flash storage alongside compute. If the forecast materialises, data-center operators and cloud platforms could face higher enterprise SSD costs and tighter availability, particularly for QLC products.
