Thailand’s Board of Investment has approved three data-center projects with combined investment of THB91.3 billion, accounting for nearly all of a THB95.8 billion package of six large projects. The largest approval is a THB84.2 billion TikTok data-infrastructure expansion spanning Bangkok, Samut Prakan and Chachoengsao.

  • Three approved data-center projects account for THB91.3 billion of the BOI’s THB95.8 billion large-project package.
  • TikTok’s THB84.2 billion data-infrastructure expansion is the largest approved project and spans Bangkok, Samut Prakan and Chachoengsao.
  • The BOI is coordinating power-system preparation for data-center growth, particularly in eastern Thailand.
  • Direct renewable-electricity procurement and power-planning measures remain under consideration rather than implemented policy.
  • No capacity, grid-connection, technology, water-use or delivery-schedule details were disclosed.

Thailand’s Board of Investment (BOI) has approved six large investment projects worth a combined THB95.8 billion, including three data-center projects valued at THB91.3 billion.

TikTok’s approved THB84.2 billion data-infrastructure expansion is the largest of the three and covers Bangkok, Samut Prakan and Chachoengsao. The package also includes a THB4.6 billion Skyline Data Center project and a THB2.46 billion Bridge Data Centers project. The approvals concern investment projects and do not indicate that the facilities have entered service.

Alongside the investment approvals, the BOI said it is coordinating with the Ministry of Energy and the Energy Regulatory Commission on power-system preparation, with particular focus on eastern Thailand as the number of data centers grows. Authorities are also considering early publication of a power-development plan and a contractual mechanism that would allow private companies to procure renewable electricity directly from generators.

For data-center developers and investors, the package indicates that power-system readiness is becoming increasingly central to Thailand’s expansion strategy. The concentration of approved data-center investment could increase competition for suitable sites, grid interconnections and long-term power supply, particularly in the east. Proposed grid-development and direct renewable-procurement measures could strengthen the investment case for future facilities, but their operating parameters and implementation schedules have not been disclosed.

The BOI also added nine projects worth THB5.2 billion to the Thailand Fast Pass programme, bringing the programme to 25 projects with a combined value of THB22.3 billion.

Почему это важно

The approvals reinforce data centers as the dominant component of Thailand’s latest investment package while highlighting power availability, industrial-water supply and clean-energy procurement as potential constraints on further market growth. Planned grid measures in the eastern region and proposed direct renewable-power purchasing could affect the investability of future campuses, although implementation details and timing have not been disclosed.
