A TeleGeography review of Asian cloud infrastructure, published on 20 August 2026 and reported by a Japanese blog, shows China retaining the region’s largest concentration of cloud regions and availability zones as deployments broaden across India, Japan and Southeast Asia. The data are current to the first quarter of 2026.

Главное
  • China represented more than half of Asia’s availability zones and about 45% of its cloud regions in the first quarter of 2026.
  • India had 22 availability zones, compared with 24 in Singapore; Japan had 32.
  • Shanghai and Beijing each had about 50 on-ramp sites, while Singapore had more than 30 and Tokyo about 30.
  • Cloud-region expansion was reported in India, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan and Thailand.
  • The trend could raise demand for direct cloud connectivity and distributed multicloud network infrastructure.

China remained Asia’s largest cloud-infrastructure market in the TeleGeography assessment, accounting for more than 50% of the region’s availability zones and about 45% of cloud regions as of the first quarter of 2026. The country had more than 45 cloud regions and more than 150 availability zones.

The data also point to a broader geographic distribution of cloud infrastructure across Asia. India had 11 cloud regions and 22 availability zones, approaching Singapore’s 24 availability zones. Japan had 12 cloud regions and 32 availability zones. The review identified further expansion of cloud regions in India, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan and Thailand.

Dedicated cloud-access infrastructure remains concentrated in major connectivity hubs. Shanghai and Beijing each had about 50 on-ramp sites, while Singapore had more than 30. Tokyo had about 30 on-ramp sites, placing it behind Singapore in the reported count.

The review names Alibaba Cloud, AWS, Google Cloud, Huawei Cloud, Microsoft Azure and Oracle among providers expanding their presence in Asia. The pattern suggests that the regional market could become more multipolar: alongside China’s large cloud cluster, India and Southeast Asian markets may gain greater importance for data-center operators, cloud providers and enterprise users.

For infrastructure planning, this could shift attention beyond core data-center capacity toward carrier-neutral direct-connect points, dedicated connectivity and the operational management of distributed multicloud architectures. It also increases the relevance of interregional connectivity, local compliance requirements, latency considerations and power availability in cloud and data-center site selection.

Почему это важно

The distribution of cloud regions, availability zones and on-ramp sites is becoming more important than concentration in a small number of traditional hubs. This could increase the value of interregional connectivity, direct cloud access, local compliance capabilities and site selection based on latency and power availability.
