SGC Energy has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with Vertiv to jointly evaluate infrastructure for a planned AI data center in Gunsan, South Korea. Vertiv intends to deploy its integrated PowerNexus power infrastructure solution at the site, which SGC Energy expects to enter operation in 2028.
- The MoU is non-binding and covers a joint technical evaluation, not a confirmed equipment contract.
- SGC Energy plans the AI data center in Gunsan, South Korea, with operations expected in 2028.
- Vertiv intends to deploy its PowerNexus integrated power module, combining UPS, distribution equipment and switchgear.
- The proposed installation is described as PowerNexus’s first deployment in South Korea.
- Claims of up to 70% faster deployment and up to 20% lower installation cost are system-level assertions, not project results.
SGC Energy and Vertiv have entered into a non-binding MoU covering a joint technical evaluation of infrastructure for SGC Energy’s planned AI data center in Gunsan, South Korea.
Vertiv intends to deploy PowerNexus, a factory-integrated power module combining high-capacity UPS systems, distribution equipment and switchgear. The proposed deployment would be PowerNexus’s first in South Korea. SGC Energy expects the data center to begin operations in 2028.
The agreement remains an early-stage technical arrangement rather than a final supply contract. It nonetheless highlights the role that pre-integrated electrical infrastructure may play in AI data-center delivery, where the schedule for deploying critical power systems can affect the timing of capacity availability.
According to SGC Energy, PowerNexus can reduce deployment time by up to 70% and installation costs by up to 20% compared with a conventional approach. Those figures are stated system capabilities, not verified outcomes for the Gunsan project.
If these claimed schedule and cost effects are realized, the Gunsan project could serve as a reference deployment for integrated PowerNexus power architecture in South Korea and support the case for factory-assembled modular systems in accelerated AI data-center builds.
The agreement points to demand for pre-integrated critical power infrastructure in AI data-center projects. If the claimed deployment and installation benefits are achieved, factory-integrated modular systems could be increasingly relevant where critical-infrastructure delivery constrains time to capacity.
