  • Samsung SDI publicly displayed a cylindrical LFP battery positioned for AI data centers.
  • The company presented UPS, BBU, SBB and cell-lineup offerings at Data Centre World Asia 2026 in Singapore.
  • The BBU display included a high-output, high-capacity ternary 21700 battery.
  • A prismatic LFP battery was presented for the integrated SBB 2.0 ESS.
  • Commercial specifications, availability and customer deployments for the cylindrical LFP product were not disclosed.

Samsung SDI made its first appearance at Data Centre World Asia 2026, which opened in Singapore on September 29, where it presented a battery portfolio positioned for AI data-center applications.

The principal product announcement was the first public showing of a cylindrical LFP battery for AI data centers. Samsung SDI organized its exhibit into four areas: uninterruptible power supply (UPS), battery backup unit (BBU), Samsung Battery Box (SBB), and a cell lineup.

The BBU area included a high-output, high-capacity ternary battery in the 21700 form factor, alongside cylindrical batteries for emergency power in AI data centers. The company also displayed a prismatic LFP battery intended for its integrated SBB 2.0 ESS. Its showcased UPS solution had met all criteria in a large-scale indoor fire test conducted by UL Solutions, according to the source; no model name or full test protocol was provided.

For data-center operators and infrastructure investors, the announcement suggests further specialization of battery platforms for AI-oriented power environments. Suppliers may increasingly compete not only on energy capacity and output, but also on fire-safety performance and suitability for UPS, BBU and ESS architectures.

The near-term commercial significance cannot yet be quantified. Samsung SDI did not disclose the cylindrical LFP battery's capacity, power, voltage, cycle life, safety metrics, pricing, commercial availability, production volumes, customers or confirmed supply contracts.

Почему это важно

The launch points to intensifying competition among energy-storage suppliers targeting AI data-center power architectures, where output capability, fire safety and resilient backup power are central requirements. A cylindrical LFP option could broaden technology choices across BBU, UPS and ESS deployments, although Samsung SDI has not disclosed commercial specifications or deployment timing.
