Samsung Electronics and five affiliates have announced a combined $1 billion investment in Helix Digital Infrastructure, a KKR-created platform focused on AI infrastructure. The companies said the investment is intended to accelerate the global deployment of AI data centers with Helix.

Samsung Electronics is committing $500 million. Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance will collectively provide the remaining $500 million. The allocation among those five affiliates was not disclosed.

Launched in June, Helix is developing infrastructure for AI demand across hyperscale data centers, power generation, transmission and distribution infrastructure, and fiber-optic networks. KKR, Kuwait Investment Authority, Nvidia and Vistra are identified as founding investors. According to KKR, more than $10 billion had already been committed to Helix before the Samsung investment; this describes committed capital rather than confirmed deployed or spent capital.

The transaction could strengthen Helix’s access to an integrated AI data-center supply chain spanning equipment, cooling systems, data-center construction, energy storage and financing. More broadly, it suggests that competition in AI infrastructure is increasingly likely to center on the ability to deliver compute capacity alongside the generation, grid and network assets required to support it, rather than on data-center sites alone.

Почему это важно

The investment links Samsung’s capabilities in semiconductors, cooling, data-center construction and batteries with a platform targeting both AI data centers and their underlying power infrastructure. It underscores an industry shift in which AI capacity expansion may depend not only on data-center development, but also on coordinated investment in generation, transmission, distribution and connectivity.
