Anthropic may be the unnamed AI-lab customer in IREN’s previously disclosed multi-year cloud contract, according to a report citing The Information. Neither company has confirmed the reported agreement, and its capacity, term, value, sites and commercial structure remain undisclosed.

  • Anthropic is reported to be the likely customer behind IREN’s previously undisclosed AI-lab contract, but neither party has confirmed this.
  • The reported IREN agreement has no disclosed capacity, value, term, sites or commercial structure.
  • Anthropic’s reported leasing activity indicates demand across more than 10 cloud operators, including AWS and Google.
  • The potential contract could support the shift of mining-origin operators toward AI infrastructure, subject to delivery and service-quality execution.

Anthropic may have signed an undisclosed multi-year cloud contract with IREN, according to a report citing The Information. The agreement has not been publicly announced, and neither Anthropic nor IREN has confirmed it.

The report identifies Anthropic as the likely customer behind IREN’s previously referenced contract with a leading AI lab. IREN chief executive Daniel Roberts said in August that the company had secured such a contract, but did not name the customer. No details have been disclosed on the reported Anthropic agreement’s value, duration, capacity, locations or commercial model.

The potential deal would fit a broader reported procurement strategy at Anthropic. According to the source, Anthropic has data-center leasing agreements with more than 10 cloud operators, including AWS and Google, with aggregate capacity reported at more than 15 GW of IT load and an estimated value of about $530 billion. These figures are reported media estimates rather than terms confirmed by the companies, and they do not describe the proposed IREN contract specifically.

The same reporting projects Anthropic’s AI compute capacity at 5 GW of IT load in the current year, 9.5 GW in the following year, and more than 15 GW by 2028, following 1.4 GW in 2025. The projections underscore the scale of infrastructure demand implied by Anthropic’s reported expansion plans, but should not be treated as confirmed procurement or delivery targets for IREN.

If the IREN relationship is confirmed, it could reinforce the opportunity for operators repurposing mining-sector sites and operating capabilities for AI data-center workloads. Reported plans also point to roles for Hut 8, TeraWulf and Nscale alongside IREN. However, the commercial outcome will depend on execution: SemiAnalysis has reportedly questioned the service quality of IREN’s existing data centers in British Columbia, although the available source does not provide details of that assessment.

The importance of time to service is illustrated by a cited example of a 245 MW data center in Louisiana. Investors and analysts estimated that bringing AI inference online one month earlier could add $1.3 billion in revenue. That figure is an estimate, not an actual financial result, and it is not presented as relating to IREN or the reported Anthropic agreement.

Почему это важно

If confirmed, the arrangement would add to evidence that AI labs are turning to current and former mining-sector operators to accelerate delivery of AI infrastructure. It also highlights that speed to service and operational reliability may determine how effectively operators convert available power and data-center assets into AI revenue.
