- Petra Power plans first customer fuel-cell deployments in 2028 and full-scale production in 2029.
- The company says it is engaging neoclouds and infrastructure providers, but has no formal hyperscaler agreements.
- Its fuel cells convert natural gas and other fuels directly into electricity for data-center and defense applications.
- Nearly US$9 million in cited Department of Defense contracts does not demonstrate deployed data-center capacity or data-center revenue.
- No system capacity, installation volume, data-center customer or operational deployment has been disclosed.
Petra Power is marketing solid-oxide fuel cells as a power-supply option for high-demand loads, including data centers, in the United States. Its systems are designed to convert natural gas and other fuels directly into electricity.
The company is pursuing two target segments: data centers and the US Department of Defense. Founder Aaron Goodman has said Petra Power is working with neoclouds and other infrastructure suppliers. The company does not yet have formal agreements with hyperscalers.
Petra Power plans to complete its first customer deployments in 2028 and enter full-scale production in 2029. These are stated targets rather than completed milestones. No fuel-cell capacity, planned installation count, data-center project size, customer identity or deployed data-center power capacity has been disclosed.
According to the founder, Petra Power has secured contracts worth nearly US$9 million from the US Department of Defense. Those contracts should not be read as evidence of data-center revenue, investment funding or commissioned data-center generation capacity. The company’s fuel-cell application for ground military vehicles remains in testing and has not been deployed on operational vehicles.
For data-center developers, the proposition is potentially relevant as an on-site generation approach using natural gas, particularly where large loads require rapid power availability. Its market significance remains prospective: the company has not disclosed operating data-center deployments or agreements with hyperscalers, and independent validation of its technical performance, customer contracts and production timetable was not provided.
The company represents an early-stage effort to use natural-gas-based, on-site fuel-cell generation for power-intensive data-center loads. If its claims on efficiency, fuel cost and footprint are validated, the technology could broaden distributed-power options for new facilities; however, no operating data-center deployments, installation volumes or hyperscaler contracts have been disclosed.
