NVIDIA and MediaTek have announced an expanded strategic partnership covering AI data-center infrastructure, AI PCs and automotive electronics, according to S1.

As part of the arrangement, NVIDIA subscribed to $3.5 billion of MediaTek-issued overseas unsecured convertible bonds. Alphabet also participated in the transaction, which the source describes as having a total value of $3.9 billion. The precise size of Alphabet’s participation was not disclosed.

MediaTek said it intends to use the proceeds to strengthen its global supply chain, including purchases of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and ABF substrates, prepayments for foundry wafer capacity, advanced packaging, and ASIC development. For data-center infrastructure, such spending could support the component and manufacturing inputs required for future custom AI accelerators, although no order volumes, deployment capacity or commercial rollout schedule were disclosed.

On the technology side, MediaTek said it will use NVIDIA’s NVLink Fusion platform to integrate its own XPU and ASIC products with NVIDIA’s server and networking ecosystem. If implemented as described, the integration could expand the set of custom compute components addressable within NVIDIA-oriented AI infrastructure.

MediaTek forecasts that its data-center division will generate more than $2 billion of revenue in 2026. It is also targeting a 15%–20% share of a potential $80 billion ASIC market in 2027. These figures are company expectations and targets rather than achieved results.

For data-center operators and AI-infrastructure investors, the key development is the potential closer alignment of a custom-accelerator supplier with NVIDIA’s interconnect, server and networking stack. The market effect will depend on execution, commercial demand for MediaTek’s future ASICs, and the company’s ability to secure the HBM, substrate, advanced-packaging and foundry capacity it has identified as priorities.

Почему это важно

The arrangement could deepen the link between custom AI accelerator development and NVIDIA’s server, networking and high-speed interconnect ecosystem. If the stated NVLink Fusion integration is delivered, it could broaden the range of compute components compatible with NVIDIA-based AI infrastructure while supporting investment in constrained AI hardware supply-chain segments.
