NTT Docomo Business has outlined an AI infrastructure roadmap that includes the planned customer availability of its Gotanda data center in Tokyo’s Nishi-Gotanda district in the third quarter of fiscal 2029. The facility is designed with liquid-cooled server space and 11.7 MW of power supplied to IT equipment.
- Gotanda DC is planned for customer availability in FY2029 Q3, not yet operational.
- The facility is specified at 11.7 MW of power supplied to IT equipment, rather than total site or campus capacity.
- Four of Gotanda DC’s five server-room floors are planned for liquid cooling.
- NTT Docomo Business also plans a liquid-cooling-capable containerized DC park in Ota for autumn 2027, with up to 150 kW per rack.
- The company’s modular and conventional facility plans could address different AI infrastructure deployment requirements.
NTT Docomo Business announced an AI infrastructure roadmap on September 28, covering AI-oriented data centers, GPU-as-a-service and network services. Its principal planned facility is the Gotanda data center in Nishi-Gotanda, Shinagawa, Tokyo, for which customer availability is targeted in the third quarter of fiscal 2029.
The planned building is approximately a five-minute walk from JR Gotanda Station and has a stated total floor area of 16,168 square metres. It is designed with five server-room floors: four for liquid cooling and one for air cooling. The facility’s specified power supplied to IT equipment is 11.7 MW; this is an IT-load figure, not a statement of total facility or campus power capacity.
The design also specifies a floor loading of 2,000 kg/m², consistent with the company’s focus on equipment supporting dense AI deployments. NTT Docomo Business already operates liquid-cooled AI data centers at Osaka No. 7 DC and Yokohama No. 1 DC, according to its announcement.
Separately, the company plans to make a containerized data-center park available in Tokyo’s Ota ward in autumn 2027. It is working with Tokyo Electric Power Company Power Grid on power supply for that project. The proposed park is designed to accommodate liquid cooling and support up to 150 kW per rack, with a stated build period of roughly six months to two years.
The two planned formats point to complementary approaches to AI infrastructure deployment in Tokyo: a purpose-built urban facility with liquid-cooled server floors, and a modular containerized option intended for shorter deployment cycles. This could reinforce the importance of liquid-cooling capability, high rack power density and secured power supply in Japan’s urban AI data-center market.
Neither the Gotanda data center nor the Ota containerized park has been confirmed as operational. The announced dates represent planned availability targets rather than completed commissioning.
The plan signals further adaptation of urban Japanese data centers for high-density AI workloads, combining liquid cooling, increased floor loading and dedicated IT power capacity. NTT Docomo Business’s parallel containerized data-center park proposal also suggests that faster-to-deploy formats may play a role alongside conventional facilities, although both projects remain future deployments.
