Naver Signs MOU on Solar Equity Investment and Long-Term PPA for Data Centers

Naver has signed a memorandum of understanding with Gurin Energy to explore an equity investment in the Jindo Green Solar project and a long-term power purchase agreement for its data-center operations. The proposed renewable supply would be directed primarily to AI and cloud infrastructure at Gak Sejong and Gak Chuncheon.

Главное
  • The agreement is an MOU, not a final investment or power-supply contract.
  • Jindo Green Solar has total permitted project capacity of 216 MW; no Naver-specific capacity has been disclosed.
  • Naver is considering a combined model of renewable-project equity participation and a long-term PPA.
  • The intended demand centers are AI and cloud infrastructure at Gak Sejong and Gak Chuncheon.
  • The parties target a definitive agreement by the end of 2026.

Naver and Gurin Energy have signed an MOU to discuss renewable-power supply for Naver’s data centers through a potential equity investment and a long-term PPA.

The discussions concern Jindo Green Solar, a solar project in Jindo County, South Jeolla Province, South Korea. The project has received an electricity-business permit and has a total permitted project capacity of 216 MW. That figure represents the overall scale of the solar project, not a confirmed volume of generation to be contracted by or delivered to Naver.

Under the proposed arrangement, Naver would consider acquiring a stake in the project while securing long-term renewable electricity supply. Gurin Energy is responsible for the project’s development and operational management. Naver intends to use the procured power primarily for AI and cloud infrastructure at its Gak Sejong and Gak Chuncheon data centers.

The companies are targeting execution of a definitive agreement by the end of 2026. However, the proposed investment size, Naver’s ownership share, PPA volume and duration, pricing, supply terms, and project delivery schedule remain under discussion.

For the South Korean data-center market, the structure could provide a reference for linking large digital loads to renewable generation through both equity participation and contracted power procurement. If a definitive agreement is reached, it could support renewable-generation development tied to demand from major digital operators and reduce reliance on a single renewable-procurement instrument. Its practical market impact is currently limited by the absence of disclosed commercial terms and a confirmed energy allocation for Naver.

Почему это важно

The MOU signals a potential shift toward a combined procurement model for data-center power: an equity position in renewable generation alongside a long-term PPA. This could improve the predictability of renewable-energy access for expanding AI and cloud loads, but the arrangement remains preliminary and does not establish Naver’s contracted capacity or actual energy deliveries.
