Meta is continuing construction of its Hyperion data center in Richland Parish, Louisiana, a facility the company describes as its largest of its kind at nearly 10 million square feet. The project is also driving local workforce development, with Louisiana Delta Community College training data center technicians for roles linked to the buildout.

Construction is under way on Meta’s Hyperion data center in rural Richland Parish, Louisiana. Meta describes the nearly 10-million-square-foot facility as its largest data center of this type.

The construction phase is expected to require more than 7,500 trade workers on site at peak activity. Once the project is completed, Meta expects Hyperion to support 1,000 operational jobs. These figures represent different workforce horizons: the construction headcount is a peak-site estimate, while the operational roles are expected after completion rather than current employment.

Louisiana Delta Community College is developing a local technician pipeline alongside the project. Its four-week Data Center Technician course, offered at the Winnsboro campus, costs nearly $3,700 and produces about 24 graduates per month. The first cohort, which graduated in March, comprised 11 students; all received job offers from IES Communications, whose employees are working on the Meta project.

For data center developers and contractors, the development underscores how large AI-oriented campuses can reshape local labor markets beyond core construction procurement. In this case, the projected demand spans both high-volume skilled trades during the build phase and a subsequent operating workforce, while the college program provides a localized channel for technical staffing.

Почему это важно

The project illustrates the two-stage labor demand created by large AI data center campuses: a substantial, temporary requirement for construction trades followed by longer-term demand for operations personnel. Its connection to a local community-college program suggests that regional training pipelines can be an important delivery factor for large-scale data center infrastructure.
