Kioxia Announces NX1 SSDs With Direct Liquid-Cooling Option for AI Data Centers
Редакция ЦОД:Главное
Kioxia has announced the NX1 SSD line for AI data centers and hyperscale environments, with direct liquid-cooling support available on its 9.5 mm E1.S variant. The drives are available to selected Kioxia hyperscale customers, while pricing and broader commercial availability have not been disclosed.
- NX1 is aimed at AI data centers and hyperscale environments and uses PCIe 5.0, NVMe 2.0, and E1.S server slots.
- Only the 9.5 mm NX1 variant supports direct liquid cooling; the 15 mm variant is air-cooled.
- Kioxia claims a 38% sequential-write improvement over its previous generation.
- Capacity ranges from 1.92 TB to 15.36 TB, with a 1 DWPD endurance rating.
- Availability is currently limited to some Kioxia hyperscale customers.
Kioxia has introduced its NX1 SSD family for AI data-center and hyperscale deployments, positioning direct liquid cooling as an option for one of the storage variants. The announcement reflects the increasing need to manage heat across a wider set of server components as AI infrastructure becomes denser.
NX1 supports PCIe 5.0 and NVMe 2.0 and is designed for E1.S server slots. Direct liquid cooling is supported only by the 9.5 mm version. The 15 mm model is intended for air cooling.
Kioxia claims the drives provide 38% higher sequential-write performance than the prior generation, which delivered 5.8 GB/s sequential-write performance. NX1 capacities range from 1.92 TB to 15.36 TB, and the drives are rated for 1 DWPD.
The drives were available, at the time of publication, only to some Kioxia hyperscale customers. Kioxia has not disclosed pricing, shipment volumes, compatible server platforms, supply geographies, or a date for broader commercial availability.
For operators and server suppliers, the NX1 may signal a move toward more integrated liquid-cooling architectures that include storage alongside CPUs and GPUs. The practical significance will depend on whether server platforms and cooling loops can support the configuration at scale, as well as on the water and energy efficiency of specific cooling implementations.
The product points to rising thermal and performance constraints in dense AI infrastructure. If adopted at scale, direct liquid cooling for SSDs could extend liquid-cooling loops beyond CPUs and GPUs, although the operational impact will depend on platform compatibility, supply volumes, pricing, and the water and energy performance of the cooling system.
