  • J-Power plans its first data-center project in Kaminokuni, Hokkaido.
  • The containerized facility is planned to begin providing GPU computing services in summer 2027.
  • A 40-foot container is planned to host NVIDIA HGX B300 and NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition environments.
  • Mirait One is the named EPC contractor; Morgenrot technology is planned for the project.
  • No IT load, electrical capacity, CAPEX, grid-interconnection details, container count, or GPU quantity has been disclosed.

J-Power has approved its first data-center project, provisionally named the Kaminokuni Data Center, in Kaminokuni, Hokkaido, Japan. The company plans a containerized deployment and targets the start of computing-service provision in summer 2027.

The planned installation will use a 40-foot container housing an environment based on NVIDIA HGX B300 and NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition systems. Mirait One is identified as the EPC contractor, while the project will use technology from Morgenrot, a J-Power portfolio company.

The development is an early move by J-Power into GPU-focused digital infrastructure rather than evidence of an operating data-center capacity. J-Power intends to draw on experience from the project to expand its data-center business and has stated an objective of putting green data centers using hydroelectric and geothermal non-fossil energy into practical use.

That objective should not be read as confirmation of the power supply for the Kaminokuni deployment. The available information does not specify whether this containerized facility itself will be supplied by hydroelectric or geothermal generation.

For the market, the project could illustrate a model in which a power company tests compact GPU infrastructure alongside its generation capabilities and non-fossil energy strategy. If J-Power moves beyond this initial deployment, it could increase competition for sites and power resources serving AI workloads in Japan. However, the current market significance cannot be quantified because no IT or electrical capacity, CAPEX, container count, GPU volume, or grid-interconnection parameters have been disclosed.

Почему это важно

The project marks an energy company’s entry into GPU-oriented data-center infrastructure. Its capacity and investment have not been disclosed, but the deployment could serve as a pilot for J-Power’s wider data-center strategy and its stated ambition to develop data centers associated with non-fossil generation.
