IndexBox Forecasts 6.2% Annual Growth in Data-Center Transformer Market Through 2035
Редакция ЦОД:Главное
IndexBox has published a 2026–2035 outlook for the global data-center transformer market, projecting 6.2% compound annual growth in its base case. The forecast attributes demand growth to higher-density AI and HPC deployments, energy-efficiency requirements, and a shift toward modular, integrated electrical infrastructure.
- IndexBox’s base case forecasts 6.2% annual growth in the global data-center transformer market between 2026 and 2035.
- The market index is projected to reach 182 by 2035, based on 2025=100.
- The forecast links AI and HPC rack densities above 40 kW per rack with demand for higher-kVA transformers.
- IndexBox associates PUE targets below 1.2 with transformer efficiency above 99.5% at low load.
- Hyperscale operators and colocation providers are estimated to account for 38% and 27% of market value, respectively.
- Supplier qualification, electrical-steel availability and certification lead times could influence AI infrastructure deployment schedules.
IndexBox projects that the global market for data-center transformers will expand at a 6.2% CAGR from 2026 to 2035 under its base-case scenario. It expects the market index to reach 182 by 2035, with 2025 set at 100.
The forecast identifies AI and HPC as a principal demand driver. According to IndexBox, these workloads are associated with rack power densities above 40 kW per rack and require transformers with higher kVA ratings. The report also links data-center PUE targets below 1.2 to demand for transformer efficiency above 99.5% at low load.
Hyperscale cloud operators are estimated to account for 38% of market value, making them the largest end-market segment in the forecast. Colocation data centers are estimated to represent 27%. IndexBox expects a two-tier supplier structure to develop, with suppliers that have completed lengthy hyperscaler qualification processes positioned to benefit in the upper tier.
For operators, the relevant issue is not only equipment efficiency but the availability and qualification of power equipment within integrated electrical systems. The forecast indicates that suppliers able to provide high-efficiency units, larger kVA ratings, modular distribution-system integration and large-operator qualification could gain value. This could make power-equipment availability and certification lead times material factors in the pace of AI-capacity deployment, particularly where grid interconnection is delayed.
IndexBox identifies Asia-Pacific as the largest production and consumption base. North America and Europe are forecast to grow faster than the market average.
The outlook remains scenario-based rather than evidence of a confirmed equipment contract or a specific data-center project. Its base case assumes continued expansion of hyperscale and colocation capacity, easing constraints on electrical steel, and continuing energy-efficiency regulation. IndexBox also flags risks from price volatility and shortages of high-grade electrical steel, long certification cycles, shortages of qualified labour in North America and Europe, and a potential slowdown in AI CAPEX after 2030.
Transformers are becoming a strategic constraint in data-center power delivery as higher rack densities and liquid-cooling deployments raise requirements for capacity, efficiency, supplier qualification and supply-chain resilience. The outlook suggests that competitive advantage could shift from the price of individual equipment toward the ability to deliver certified, integrated power subsystems.
