Freedom is building the Akashi data center in Kazakhstan with a stated total-project capacity of 100 MW and up to 4,200 server racks, according to comments by chief executive Timur Turlov at AI & Digital Bridge 2026 in Astana. Freedom has outlined a portfolio of data-center and AI-infrastructure projects in Kazakhstan, led by the Akashi development, which it says is under construction with a stated total-project capacity of 100 MW and capacity for up to 4,200 server racks.
The company is also building Freedom Cloud in Almaty, with a stated capacity of 13 MW and 480 server racks. Freedom said it already owns seven data centers in Kazakhstan and is undertaking a major modernization of a facility in Karaganda.
Alongside the data-center developments, Freedom is working with the government of Kazakhstan and NVIDIA on a sovereign AI center. No capacity or delivery timeline was disclosed for that project. NVIDIA is expected to supply computing infrastructure, while AWS is to provide cloud services. China Mobile International is expected to integrate a regional cloud network and backbone links into Akashi.
Freedom said aggregate investment announced for the projects exceeds $2.5 billion, without disclosing the allocation between facilities or the split between expenditure incurred and future commitments. Before the first Akashi module enters service, customers had reserved 61% of that module's design capacity, equivalent to 3.18 MW. This reservation applies only to the first module and does not indicate that the capacity is operational.
Turlov also said demand for already-built NVIDIA-chip-based data-center capacity is twice available supply. If sustained, the reported reservation level and demand imbalance could support strong utilization of new capacity and increase the supply of cloud and AI compute infrastructure in Kazakhstan.
