fantasista has decided to pursue development of a planned AI data center in the Imosawa area of Aoba Ward, Sendai, with 200 MW of total planned receiving capacity. The project remains at the planning and consultation stage, with development approval targeted during fiscal 2028.
- The Sendai project is planned, not under construction or operational.
- The proposed facility has 200 MW of total planned receiving capacity.
- Phase I is budgeted at approximately JPY 400 billion; no phase-by-phase capacity allocation has been disclosed.
- Development approval is targeted during fiscal 2028.
- A preliminary grid review found 200 MW acceptance technically feasible, but this is not a connection agreement.
fantasista announced on 9 September 2026 that it had decided to develop an AI data center on a site in Imosawa, Aoba Ward, Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. The site is owned by its consolidated subsidiary, NC MAX WORLD, and covers approximately 71,787 square metres.
The planned facility is described as having total receiving capacity of 200 MW. Tohoku Electric Power Network has conducted a preliminary review indicating the technical feasibility of accepting that level of power at the site. This preliminary assessment does not constitute a grid-connection agreement or confirmation that capacity will ultimately be available.
fantasista estimates the budget for Phase I at approximately JPY 400 billion. That budget applies to the first phase, while the 200 MW figure refers to the planned facility’s total receiving capacity; the company has not disclosed how capacity would be allocated between phases.
The developer is targeting development approval during fiscal 2028 and intends to continue consultations with government authorities and power-sector companies. No construction commencement, commissioning schedule, or operational date has been announced.
If permitting and interconnection progress, the project could indicate a shift of large AI loads toward regional markets capable of supporting substantial receiving capacity, reducing infrastructure concentration in the Tokyo metropolitan area. It could also create potential demand for grid infrastructure, power supply, site preparation and construction. Those market effects will depend on development approvals and final connection conditions.
The proposed power scale and approximately JPY 400 billion first-phase budget position the scheme as a potentially significant AI-infrastructure investment outside Japan’s Tokyo metropolitan region. Its impact remains contingent on permitting and final grid-connection terms, however, as no construction start or operational date has been disclosed.
