- Five EPIC sites are operating in Equinix IBX facilities in London, Paris, Frankfurt, Osaka and Sydney.
- Customers can test liquid-cooled GPU and CPU platforms for AI training and inference workloads in live data-center environments.
- The facilities are intended to validate integration across cooling, power, networking and operations before wider deployment.
- Further EPIC locations are planned for 2027.
- The commercial scale of the initiative cannot be assessed from the available information.
Equinix has opened five Enhanced Performance Innovation Centers (EPIC) within operating IBX data centers: LD5 in London, PA10 in Paris, FR6 in Frankfurt, OS3 in Osaka and SY5 in Sydney.
The EPIC sites allow customers to work with Equinix and its OEM partners to test liquid-cooled GPU and CPU platforms in an operational data-center environment. The testing is intended to support AI training and inference workloads before customers make decisions on larger-scale deployments.
For data-center operators and enterprise infrastructure teams, the value is in validating the interaction between liquid cooling, power systems, network infrastructure and day-to-day operations under production conditions. As more powerful GPUs increase rack density, liquid cooling may become necessary where traditional cooling methods are no longer sufficient.
The launch also suggests that colocation competition could increasingly extend beyond space and base infrastructure toward services that help customers validate high-density AI deployment architectures. A network of test environments across live data centers could accelerate enterprise adoption of liquid cooling and increase demand for integrated cooling, power, networking and operational solutions.
Equinix plans to open further EPIC locations in 2027. These are planned future sites, rather than operational facilities.
The facilities give enterprise customers a production data-center setting in which to validate how liquid-cooled AI platforms integrate with power, networking and operations before broader deployment. This could reduce technical and operational risk for high-density AI racks, where conventional cooling approaches may be insufficient.
