Digital Realty has opened Nairobi Two (NBO2), a new 6.4 MW data center in Nairobi, Kenya. The facility is located alongside Nairobi One and expands Digital Realty’s campus in the city.

The company positions NBO2 for colocation, interconnection, hybrid IT infrastructure and data-sovereignty use cases in East Africa. Digital Realty said the Nairobi campus provides access to more than 100 networks, connectivity to two internet exchange points and a satellite teleport.

The opening is linked to the rebranding of iColo operations in Kenya and Mozambique under the Digital Realty name. For Nairobi, the additional capacity could expand the supply of connected colocation infrastructure and improve the city’s appeal for distributed and hybrid workloads. That potential, however, depends on customer demand and utilisation, neither of which has been disclosed.

Digital Realty has not provided CAPEX, total Nairobi-campus capacity, rack count, PUE, power-supply configuration or NBO2 utilisation figures. The available information also does not establish customer or partner relationships between NBO2 and Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud or Safaricom.

Почему это важно

NBO2 adds newly stated capacity to Nairobi’s data-center market and could strengthen the city’s role as a regional neutral-colocation and interconnection hub. The combination of local infrastructure and network connectivity may support organisations deploying hybrid architectures, requiring low-latency connectivity or seeking local data hosting.
