CyrusOne hosted its first media tour of its data center site on Omicron Drive in San Antonio’s Texas Research Park, allowing reporters to view selected parts of the secured campus. The visit was framed as an effort to address public criticism and misinformation around data center development, while access to data halls and customer information remained restricted.

  • CyrusOne conducted its first media tour of its Omicron Drive site in San Antonio’s Texas Research Park.
  • The 22-acre CyrusOne site was opened only partially: visitors could not enter or photograph data halls.
  • Customer identities were not disclosed, reflecting standard security and confidentiality constraints.
  • The event underscores the increasing importance of community engagement for data center projects facing public scrutiny.
  • No capacity, CAPEX, commissioning schedule, or customer details were disclosed.

CyrusOne has opened selected areas of its Omicron Drive data center site in San Antonio’s Texas Research Park to media representatives, its first such tour of the facility. The site visit, held on September 24, 2026, gave reporters access to parts of the secured development but excluded data halls and prohibited photography inside them.

The operator did not disclose the customers using the data halls, citing customer confidentiality and protection of its own information. CyrusOne positioned the tour as an opportunity to counter what it described as myths and misinformation surrounding data centers.

The CyrusOne site occupies 22 acres in Texas Research Park. The wider data center corridor contains several large industrial buildings at different stages of completion, although the available reporting does not establish that each of those buildings belongs to CyrusOne.

For the Texas data center market, the visit points to the growing role of public acceptance alongside execution of physical infrastructure. Developers and operators may need to provide neighboring communities with a clearer understanding of major facilities, particularly where construction activity is attracting opposition. At the same time, the restricted format of the tour demonstrates the limits of that engagement: operators must protect site security and customer confidentiality, constraining how much operational detail can be shared.

A journalistic source described CyrusOne as the seventh-largest US data center company by capacity. However, the ranking methodology and reference date were not provided.

Почему это важно

The tour highlights the increasing importance of community engagement for data center developers and operators in markets where large-scale construction faces local resistance. It also illustrates the operational trade-off between greater public transparency and the physical-security and customer-confidentiality requirements of live or developing data center infrastructure.
