  • CMC Research released a 199-page study on water-resource strategy for AI data centers on 10 September 2026.
  • The publication links water conditions to AI data-center siting, cooling design, operational resilience and investment decisions.
  • Its technology coverage spans air, liquid, immersion, dry and adiabatic cooling, plus water treatment, reuse and ZLD.
  • The study’s market outlook extends through 2035.
  • This is a research publication, not a data-center development, construction or commissioning announcement.

CMC Research released its book, “AI Data Center Water Resource Strategy: Cooling, Water Treatment, Site Selection, Digital Twins and the 2035 Market Outlook in an Era of Water Constraints,” on 10 September 2026.

The publication frames water as a strategic input for AI data-center infrastructure, alongside electricity. Its scope includes AI data-center water demand, cooling architectures, water treatment and reuse, water-related siting risks, hyperscaler strategies, Digital Twin applications and market prospects through 2035.

Cooling approaches covered include air cooling, rear-door heat exchangers (RDHx), direct-to-chip liquid cooling, immersion cooling, hybrid systems, dry cooling and adiabatic cooling. The study also addresses reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration, electrodeionization, ion exchange, wastewater treatment, reclaimed water and zero-liquid-discharge systems.

For operators and investors, the relevant issue is the interaction between rising thermal density and local water conditions. Water availability, quality and reliability can influence cooling-system selection, facility design, operational continuity and the cost profile of an AI data-center deployment. This could support demand for liquid and dry cooling, water-treatment and reuse systems, ZLD, and digital management of water and thermal infrastructure.

The book comprises 199 pages and presents its market outlook through 2035. It is a research publication rather than an announcement of a data-center construction project or operational deployment.

Почему это важно

Higher GPU densities and associated heat loads can make water availability, quality and supply reliability increasingly relevant to cooling choices, continuity of operations and CAPEX/OPEX planning. The study also suggests that water constraints could increase the value of sites with resilient water supply and of cooling and treatment technologies that reduce water withdrawal.
