Chris Malone has joined NVIDIA as Vice President of DSX Platform, following his departure from OpenAI in August 2026. According to the reported LinkedIn update, the appointment took effect in October.
Malone previously served as OpenAI’s Head of Data Centers and has also held data-center infrastructure roles at Meta and Google. His background spans hyperscale infrastructure organizations and the operational requirements associated with scaling AI compute environments.
NVIDIA’s DSX Platform supports customers in designing and building AI data centers to the company’s specifications. The hire strengthens the unit’s infrastructure and deployment leadership as AI facilities increasingly require coordinated decisions across compute architecture, facility design and delivery execution.
The appointment may signal a further expansion of NVIDIA’s involvement in the end-to-end deployment of AI infrastructure, from its hardware platform to customer support for facility design and construction. However, no specific products, customer contracts, delivered capacity or new DSX responsibilities for Malone have been disclosed.
The report separately cited NVIDIA’s agreement in the previous month to provide US$105 billion in credit support for a 10-GW data center in Ohio being developed by SB Energy for OpenAI. Those figures refer to that separate project, not to Malone’s appointment, and the project’s implementation stage was not specified.
The appointment adds infrastructure leadership with experience at OpenAI, Meta and Google to NVIDIA’s AI data-center deployment organization. It could reinforce NVIDIA’s role beyond accelerators and systems into support for the design and delivery of large-scale AI compute facilities, although Malone’s specific remit has not been disclosed.
