  • The site is BroadBand Tower’s first suburban data center.
  • The facility comprises approximately 570 square metres and can accommodate up to 190 racks.
  • BroadBand Tower positions the site around stable power, cooling and clean-energy use for AI-era workloads.
  • The project’s disclosed scale suggests a local rather than market-transforming supply impact.

BroadBand Tower began operations at its Ishikari New Port Site data center in Ishikari, Hokkaido, on September 14. The company describes the facility as its first suburban data center and positions it as a green data center for the AI era.

The data center has an area of approximately 570 square metres and a maximum capacity of 190 racks. BroadBand Tower said the site is intended to provide stable power and cooling infrastructure for AI-era workloads, including equipment with high heat output, while making active use of clean energy.

BroadBand Tower operates the project under a basic agreement with Ishikari Renewable Energy Data Center No. 1 LLC (ISRD). Under that arrangement, BroadBand Tower had already undertaken management functions for the Ishikari Renewable Energy Data Center.

The launch reflects growing interest in regional data-center locations that can pair power availability and cooling infrastructure with environmental attributes. However, the facility’s disclosed physical footprint and rack count point to a limited market impact, with its significance likely to be local and demonstrative rather than a material addition to wider data-center supply.

Почему это важно

The opening adds a small regional facility aimed at AI-related requirements, including support for high-heat-density equipment and dependable power and cooling. It also indicates how sites outside major urban centers may compete on energy access, cooling conditions and clean-energy positioning, although the disclosed scale suggests a primarily local and demonstrative market impact.
