- BP Batam estimates approximately IDR 500 trillion of potential investment across Batam’s data center industry.
- The agency has recorded 16 data center projects; two are operating and six remain under negotiation.
- The investment potential covers Batam as a whole, not only the Barelang or Rempang-Galang area.
- Power and water infrastructure readiness, including potential SWRO desalination, is a key condition for further development.
- No facility capacities, development timelines, or individual project operators have been disclosed.
BP Batam is positioning Batam as a strategic location for data center development, citing approximately IDR 500 trillion in potential investment across the island’s data center industry.
The agency has recorded 16 data center projects on Batam. Two are already operational and six are at the negotiation stage. Details of the remaining eight projects, including investment values for individual developments, have not been disclosed.
The IDR 500 trillion figure applies to the Batam-wide data center project pipeline rather than to Barelang or the Rempang-Galang area alone. Project investors are from China, Singapore and Indonesia.
Infrastructure readiness remains central to the prospective build-out. BP Batam has highlighted the need to prepare power and water supply systems and is considering seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination to meet industrial water demand.
If the stated pipeline converts into delivered facilities, Batam could strengthen its role as a regional data center hub. However, the disclosed investment potential should not be equated with committed or deployed CAPEX: a material share of the project set remains at an early stage, and reliable electricity and water availability are identified constraints.
The estimate signals a substantial prospective pipeline for Batam, but it is not a measure of capital already deployed. Conversion of the pipeline will depend heavily on reliable power and water infrastructure, which BP Batam has identified as key requirements for further development.
