BBIX and Getworks have opened an Open Connectivity eXchange (OCX) connection point at the Miyagi AI Data Center in Shichigahama, Miyagi Prefecture.
OCX is a cloud-networking service provided jointly by BBIX and its subsidiary, BBSakura Networks. The new node is intended to provide regional AI and GPU infrastructure in the Tohoku area with secure, scalable and low-latency connectivity to external cloud services and major data centers.
Miyagi AI Data Center is described as a containerised data center compatible with next-generation high-performance GPU servers. The announcement concerns network interconnection capability, not the commissioning of a disclosed volume of GPU or data-center capacity.
For the market, the deployment illustrates how the competitiveness of regional AI facilities may depend not only on GPU placement but also on scalable interconnection with clouds and other data centers. Extending OCX to containerised regional sites could support a more distributed model for AI infrastructure deployment in Japan.
The development expands network connectivity for distributed AI infrastructure rather than adding disclosed compute capacity. By linking a regional GPU-oriented facility to on-demand connectivity with cloud services and major data centers, it could reduce networking barriers for hybrid AI deployments outside Japan’s largest data-center hubs.
