Aon is reportedly expanding its Data Center Lifecycle Insurance Program with an Operational Property Data Center Lifecycle Program for facilities moving out of construction coverage and for operating data centers. The offering is reported to target $10 billion in insurance capacity, rather than representing capacity already fully placed or available.

  • Aon is reportedly adding operational-phase property coverage to its data center lifecycle insurance offering.
  • The program is designed for both facilities exiting construction coverage and already-operating data centers.
  • Coverage is described as spanning core equipment, buildings and infrastructure equipment, with potential coverage for tenant GPUs and other compute assets.
  • Aon is targeting $10 billion in insurance capacity; this is a stated goal, not confirmed fully available capacity.
  • The move could help address insurance needs as large data center assets transition from construction to operations.

Aon is reported to be introducing an Operational Property Data Center Lifecycle Program as an operational-phase extension of its Data Center Lifecycle Insurance Program (DCLP).

The proposed offering is intended both for projects leaving construction insurance and for data centers already in operation. Coverage is described as including core equipment, buildings and infrastructure equipment for data center owners and operators. It may also extend to tenants’ GPUs and other computing assets.

The reported target is $10 billion of insurance capacity for operational data center assets. This remains an objective rather than fully placed or confirmed available capacity. In July, Aon announced a $5 billion increase in DCLP insurance capacity and said it intended to offer a broader set of integrated risk solutions.

The operational-stage product addresses a coverage transition that is becoming more relevant as large digital-infrastructure projects move from build-out into service. Asset values, equipment concentration and potential interruption exposures can become more material and more complex once facilities are operational.

The development also points to a more specialised insurance market around the data center lifecycle. Demand for broader insurance solutions has been linked to investment in AI, cloud computing and hyperscale data centers. If Aon secures the targeted capacity, the program could reduce insurance constraints for owners and operators of large facilities; actual availability will depend on underwriting terms and how risks are allocated.

As market context, Marsh launched its Stratus offering in August, with property coverage of up to $10 billion for digital-infrastructure projects. That product is separate from Aon’s program.

Почему это важно

The proposed extension addresses the transition from construction to operations, when data center owners and operators face potentially larger and more complex asset and business-interruption exposures. If the stated capacity is successfully placed, it could ease insurability constraints for large facilities, subject to underwriting terms and risk allocation.
